We're
In!!!

A strong hospital is the cornerstone of a strong community.

More than 20 years ago, we set out on a journey to build a world-class facility to serve the people of west Northumberland. Together, we helped this grow from the spark of an idea, to a detailed plan, to that first shovel in the ground, to the exciting moment when Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) opened in 2003.

Our community is not the same as it was in 2003. The demand for our hospital’s services is changing and growing as our population continues to increase and age. Now is the time for us to act, to prepare to meet our future head on by joining together to support our Exceptional Community, Exceptional Care campaign. With your help, we will raise $25 million to fund crucial redevelopment, essential new programs, and life–saving technology at NHH.

  • 79,211
Diagnostic Imaging Exams conducted in 2022-23 fiscal.
  • 18.4%
Increase in hospital admissions compared to 10 years ago.
  • 37,656
Emergency Department visits in 2022-23 fiscal.
Our Vision
Our Vision

Together, we will undertake the largest campaign in the history of Northumberland County. Through our Exceptional Community, Exceptional Care campaign, we will raise $25 million to: Prepare for Growth; Invest in Our Hospital’s Future; and ensure our community has access to Faster, Smarter, Connected Care.

With your support we will invest in...
New CT Scanner
New CT Scanner

Replacing our current Computed Tomography (CT) scanner (installed in 2009) will bring benefits of the latest technology to our community. Benefits include: improved image quality; better visualization, which supports faster and more accurate diagnoses; and a reduction in the level of radiation exposure for patients.

Together, we will also fund...
New MRI
New MRI

Today’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners feature larger bores (openings) and allow for scans to be conducted faster. By replacing our current MRI (installed in 2007) with the latest technology, we will help support a reduction in wait times, shorter scan times, and increased patient comfort.

Your support will also help us...
Create an Integrated Stroke Unit
Create an Integrated Stroke Unit

The creation of a 6–bed Integrated Stroke Unit will help to minimize the time between a patient experiencing a stroke and beginning rehab – something that has been shown to result in better patient outcomes. Together, we will bring this care close to home for stroke patients in one location, reducing the need to transfer between units for care, and ensuring patients are surrounded by those with expertise specific to their needs.

With your help, we will also...
Build & Equip a 4th Operating Room
Build & Equip a 4th Operating Room

Building and equipping a 4th operating room will increase our local and regional surgical capacity, allow for some decrease in surgical wait times, help to attract and retain a talented team, and create the opportunity to explore bringing new surgical services to the area.

In addition, we will...
Expand & Centralize the ICU
Expand & Centralize the ICU

With community support, we will expand our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity from the current 6 beds to at least 10. The centralization of this unit will help to address human resource challenges and allow for more collaborative care to be delivered to patients. The completion of this project will provide an opportunity to expand the scope of critical care to offer a greater level of services locally.

Together, we will also invest in...
Pharmacy Redevelopment
Pharmacy Redevelopment

Renovations to our Pharmacy will provide upgrades to meet current best-practice standards, streamline workflow, allow for more timely drug administration for patients, support cost-savings, reduce medication waste, and increase professional development opportunities to expand the team’s collective knowledge.

We will also...
Renovate Medical Device Reprocessing Department
Renovate Medical Device Reprocessing Department

The Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, and transportation of re-useable medical devices throughout the hospital. Redevelopment will improve workflow, productivity and enhance patient and staff safety. Upgrading reprocessing and sterilization equipment with newer and more efficient technology, will increase the capacity to meet the higher reprocessing demands of a growing department.
